Healthy Church

Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds… (Pro 27:23)

After many years serving as a Senior Pastor and with extensive experience in church consultancy, one consistent observation stands out: leadership often relies on perception, experience, and instinct. While these are important, they do not always reveal the full reality of church health.

Too often, churches do not intentionally evaluate their effectiveness. As a result:

  • Some strengths are assumed but are not actually present
  • Some issues remain hidden until they become critical
  • Strategic decisions are made without clear, objective insight

Healthy Church Pulse provides a structured and evidence-based way to measure what is really happening beneath the surface.

It functions as an “airworthiness test” for the church—offering a clear assessment of health, highlighting strengths to build on, and identifying areas that may require attention.

What Pulse Is

Healthy Church Pulse is a simple, structured questionnaire completed by respondents across the church. It measures both spiritual health and operational effectiveness, providing a balanced and evidence-based picture of church life.

The data is processed through a bespoke software system, reviewed using AI-supported analysis alongside consultant input, and presented in a clear report. This report highlights key findings, priority areas, and suggested pathways for consideration. (Please note Example)

What Pulse Measures

Pulse provides insight across key areas of church life. Jesus has given the church clear commands and outcomes that can, and should, be examined to help assess how effectively the church is fulfilling its mission.

These core outcomes (Key Ministry Indicators) can be summarised as follows:

  • Discipleship (Matt. 28:19–20, etc.)
Is the church developing disciples? Are people growing and maturing in Christ?
  • Worship (John 4:23–24, etc.)
Is the church helping people grow in intimacy with God, or is worship remaining at a surface level?
  • Belonging (John 1:12, etc.)
Is the church a place where people feel part of the family of God, or do they feel lonely and isolated?
  • Evangelism (Acts 1:8, etc.)
Is the church actively engaging in local and global evangelism, and equipping its people to do the same?
  • Service (Mark 10:43–45, etc.)
Is the church forming servants, or simply attracting consumers?

Alongside these, Pulse also evaluates leadership and team health, communication and administration, safeguarding and culture, demographics, and church balance.
